California Homeless Resources - New Years Day!!!

Today was by far the best day I have ever had distributing. I met some really cool people today and I was able to get some great pics.. I will document through the pictures today...

James (Jimmy) what a character! I loved this guy and he told me some really cool stories about his girlfriend of 14 years and let me pet his little puppy that was sooooo cute! I can't believe I got a buyer for those awful dog biscuit's but this little guy LOVED them..

This gentleman came by (I forgot his name) he was real nice too. He gave me the new BULLSHIT law for Ventura County below. Basically states police can arrest the homeless and they can't (fly signs) for money. So now it is a law that you can;t be homeless what is next man... ?

These guys were awesome!!! They were so very thankful for everything. I even got a hug and it felt really good to meet these guys today. Made my day!! They were also talking about the new bullshit laws...  The names:  Laura, Jim, Dustin, Bart. My new friends... :)
This gal was also very nice and grateful. I really felt for her! She was a senior on the street, NOT COOL!!! But she was so nice and put a huge smile on my face. Oh she loved the cat toys!!
This dude was cool. He had some dogs that we were able to help. Jacket was different.

The Van almost empty... Need more stuff:
  • Blankets
  • Beanies
  • Gloves
  • Tarps
  • Food
  • Dog/Cat Food
  • Jackets
  • Blankets
  • ANYTHING!!! :)

These to guys were some cool "hobos" they took the train here from Arizona and are going to San Diego. Was able to hook them up with some cloths.. Nice guys!

Giving out stuff at Rite Aid in Ventura Ca.

I finally got the van organized and I am so pleased with it. I made a trip tonight to Rid Aid in Ventura and I got to give away a lot of stuff. It felt great helping so many people again at this location that seems to have a never ending stream of people in need. Every time I go there I find more NEW people, like tonight some guy (real nice) was straight out of jail and did not have a place to stay or even a blanket. We were able to hook him up with a blanket, pillow, shirts, bars, etc... Some real nice lady came over and need some socks and soaps. Another guy needed a tarp. We were able to feed some pets (4 dogs) - the dog food was great! The jeans were a big hit again. Thank you all!!!

We now have enough cloths for a while. What I need at this point:
  • Socks
  • Gloves
  • Beanies
  • Scarfs
  • More Blankets/Sleeping bags
  • Cat/Dog food
  • People food

I want to thank the fallowing people below from the bottom of my heart:
  • Ellen - Thank you so much for those robes, blankets, cookies, cloths, etc... They really came in handy tonight and I love the robe by the way...
  • Michelle for the 5 big bags of cloths and shoes, etc...
  • The Red Head... Thanks for seeing me today and giving me stuff (dog food)!!!
  • Lisa gave a whole lot of stuff as well - Thank you!!!
  • Steve - Thank you for the cooler and the cloths!!!
  • Chip thank you for the clothes!
Until the next run... :)

Giving food to homeless in Ventura California - Day 1

Please help by calling me directly to give me your donation (I will pick it up) at 805-765-1113 or e-mail:  tootallspottery@gmail.com
Thanks, Matt ;)

A dear red headed friend of mine (she knows who she is) posted on her Facebook that she needed some food and cloths for the homeless. She has been such an inspiration to me and I am so grateful and proud to have her in my life! She is the one that gave me the inspiration to do this tonight :) I thought well I am doing this website for the homeless (California Homeless Resources) so I should get my ass out on the streets and see what I can do. While I was at the 99 Cent store I thought my other friend Bryan from Jewelery My Tattoo gave me $100.00 for a piece of pottery he wanted me to make for him. I spent the $100.00 and paid it forward... :) P.S. Don't worry you will still get that piece of pottery eventually...

This is the stuff I bought for the the homeless in Ventura tonight with that $100.00 Bryan sent to me. They all seemed to be very good things to get. I will list the items below:
  • 352 Nature Valley Trail Bars (30 to a box)
  • Dog food (taken right away) Good thing to have on hand
  • Facial Tissue
  • Scarfs
  • Pretzels
  • Small Peanut Butter packs (to go with the pretzels)
  • Toilet Paper
  • Body Wash
  • 2 blankets I had in the van
  • 1 pillow
  • Bottle water
This is the picture below after the trip, as you can see I gave away about half of the product in less than two hours and only visiting 3 places.

I learned a whole lot on my first night out. I will document it cuz it is fresh in my mind and I want to remember it for next time I will be able to go out. I called my dear friend John while I was out, he works with the homeless full time down in Southern California. He told me about this organizationUSICH that I will call tomorrow. It stands for united States interagency council on Homelessness. He also told me about the  McKinney–Vento Homeless Assistance Act This agency I guess has grants that I can apply for to be able to do this work full time and maybe help open up or at least make sure that every City in California has a homeless shelter and it has enough resources to meet the needs of the community. This act has a ton of government grant money that I should be able to tap into. He also gave me these tips which I used tonight. Keep in mind this guy does this full time all day so he knows what he is talking about. He said that what he always runs out of is two things:  1. Warm fresh socks and 2. Feminine hygiene products. Ya I don't really want to buy 10 cases of tampons being a guy so I think I will ask someone to do that for me preferably a female volunteer... ;) Anyway those things will be some of the items I will be stocking up on to pass out to individual homeless people or homeless encampments in Ventura ca. I also learned that the way to approach someone that you think may be homeless is to - ASK FOR THEIR HELP. This makes them feel helpful and doesn't piss them off. I did that tonight and it worked really well. I got lots of hugs and they were really cool. He also said that December 21st is supposed to be the longest coldest day of the year and it is homeless persons; Memorial Day

December 21.  The first day of winter. The longest night of the year.  It is also Homeless Persons' Memorial Day.  For a moment, let's consider the homeless and what it's like to be them.
  • Homeless people die from illnesses that affect everyone, frequently without health care. Some experts say the average age at death is 46 if you're homeless. Homeless people die from exposure, unprotected fro the heat and the cold Homeless people die from violence, often in unprovoked hate crimes
 Now, consider the following:
  • Health care is a human right
  • Housing is a human right
  • Physical safety is a human right
December 21.  The first day of winter, the longest night of the year.
Remember the homeless, part of the human family, who have died without homes.  They are your friends and neighbors.  Remember why they died and be part of a solution to make homelessness a thing of the past.
Again, I want to thank my THREE friends that got me out of the house and gave of themselves so that others could be more comfortable. We have power in numbers and networking is a good thing... :)

Please help California Homeless Resources by donating some money, canned food or some cloths, etc... I am fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time right now setting this Website/Charity up and I sure would like to spread the word and get some help to these poor people that really need our help. We are all connected and we all need to work together to solve this problem. It is FREEEEEKEN cold right now and these people need warm stuff:  Blankets, gloves, jackets, sleeping bags, beanies, etc... Please help by calling me directly to give me your donation (I will pick it up) at 805-765-1113 or e-mail:  tootallspottery@gmail.com
Thanks, Matt ;)

California Homeless Resources

I am so excited!!! I found my calling... This California Homeless Resources thing is going to be huge! God is placing all the right people in my life and my talents are matching up with Gods will and that my friends is a very powerful thing. I have so much more clarity now. I will be blogging everyday on the progress of the California Homeless Resources site. I will be blogging daily because it is starting to drive more and more website traffic. I don't want to "toot my own horn" I want the friends that are involved with this movement to be up to date on what is going one. Kinda like a daily newsletter. The more I use the word Homeless in this blog the better it will be for people to see the blog and then to help the cause. I need traffic to the Blog so please everyone spread the word to please follow the blog so that people will see that people have an interest in helping the homeless.

I am excited to report:
  • We are having people come to the site via Google and looking up their particular City for resources. Just today we had people visiting the site from Hayward Ca., Huntington Beach, and Roseville Ca.
  • We have another person (I will leave names out) donate warm clothing, etc... and offer to go with me to pass things out. She also played it forward and is trying to get more donations from like 20+ other people. THANK YOU!!!
  • My Friend John has given me some local numbers - One in Palm Springs Ca. and one in Riverside Ca. to call and try to get some grants for opening shelters in all of California.
  •  I bought some 5X7 Camo tarps, gloves, beanies to pass out today and passed out another 1/4 of the $100.00 bought yesterday from another friend.
  • Went to Burlington Coat Factory and put a call in to the manager to try and get some warm cloths for Ventura.
  • Got to give my nice sleeping bag to a pregnant woman with two dogs. This was a gal that was referred to me by another friend. Keeping names out for now.. THANK YOU....
  • Spoke to my good friend of 16 years John and he gave me some more info.
  • I learned that wrapping (packages) up for people when I drive by was a good thing to do. If you see someone on the corner you can just hand it out real fast.
  • I visited a "campsite" a guy and his girl were camping for 3 years and they were very grateful for the "Package" Out of work for 3 years - Construction..
  • Another friend gave me resources for San Diego! THANK YOU! She also gave me some great ideas.. :)
  • I will add at least one more City tonight to the site and I will also add Red Cross Listings for every City thus far.
I will continue to do this daily report for the special friends that are helping me with this. Please comment on this blog and subscribe so we can get more people to follow. Spread the word... :) What do you guys think of the new blog design? I made it simple and white so people could read it easier. Let me know what you think?

California Homeless Resources

Hi Guys,
My friend suggested we get some goals together and I think this is great! I will write down some of my thoughts here and everyone please respond via Facebook for now OK.
My Thoughts...

First, we need to find a good TIME efficient way for us/me as facilitator all to communicate. I think the Blog/Facebook will be the answer. I want to be able to use peoples names cuz we need to work together. Maybe just first names and last initial? I want to be the facilitator cuz I have the most available time and can publish on the web, etc.... For now lets use the comments on Facebook to correspond and if anyone has a better idea let us know. I will be compiling every one's notes/input from the comments pages of my Facebook and compiling them all into a results orientated update daily on the blog every night so everyone can stay up to date on this movement. I will date each blog so that you can type the date into the blogger search tool and find whatever day you want to keep in the loop. It will be vital to keep this as organized as possible. We have 14 days left to our first goal and that is to get as much warm stuff and food to the homeless before December 21st the longest coldest day of the year. Please everyone lets network and get this movement out to everyone we can.

1st goal:  Lets compose letter/flyer to attract people to the movement referred to as - (California Homeless Resources). Who is a good letter writer? (I am not) This letter will go to everyone so it should be well thought out.

2nd Goal:  Let's outline people and what the best use of talents are and how they can best serve the movement. For example:  My place in the movement will be to work 8+ hours a day and to 1. Publish your ideas to the website 2. Facilitate through a daily blog everyone's ideas. 3. To make the runs with my van. 4. whatever... :) I am good at business as a whole and organization. What are you especially good at?

3rd Goal:  This should be number one, FILL THE VAN UP TO THE BRIM WITH WARM CLOTHS AND FOOD AND DISTRIBUTE ASAP! I am getting to know the people already and the locations. We need to all work together on this and keep our eyes peeled and update everyone on "location" for the local VenturaSanta Barbara areas. We have an extended 1990 Ford econo line van ready to fill up!

4th goal:  To get federal funding so that I can continue to facilitate full time for the movement! Without time we are screwed. I am on Temp. disability until June 1 2102. I am making good money and can and will devote 8+ hours a day to this. I am going to be taking my Real Estate lic. but that should only take a couple hours a day.  I am willing to devote full time and try to get this thing off the ground in the next couple of months. We only have I would say till about March 1, 2012 to utilize my full time status. After March if we don't get the grants to continue the movement I will have to spend full time looking for a job. I am taking a risk by waiting this long but I think God will take of the rest... :) So lets get government funding!!! I am excellent on the phone and will do my best to try and obtain this. The long term goal through next year is to make sure every City in California has a viable Homeless Shelter! The State has a ton of grant money ready to be utilized.

5th Goal: Need a mission Statement and to update the website to get a clear concise message to the viewers (possible donations).  We need to publish these goals on the site as well to give people a clear understanding on what we are doing.

6h Goal: Spread the word via social networking on-line through Facebook and Twitter, etc.. and also through whatever means we can think of. Let’s think local Ventura for now as far as the driving and possibly expand to Santa Barbara.

7th Goal:  Establish ourselves as a viable organization locally.  We need to go to local meetings with the homeless shelters, etc… to see whereCaliforniaHomeless Resources can be of best service.

New Business:
We got local business support!!!

Thank you FREEBIRDS - The best burrito EVER!!!
Freebirds has agreed to place a station for the movement in the front lobby and get some warm cloths and food for local homeless. They are super cool and I am so happy about this.
  • Please give me permission or not to use your name(s) in my correspondence. I will be starting a "mastermind list" of everyone involved in this movement.
  • Who would like to get together and maybe set up a weekly meeting at a Denny's or something?
  • I gave to 4 "campers today on the way to my AA Meeting. I also made an announcement in the meeting of what the movement is and to please help us fill up the van. Very good response and I should be getting some good stuff.
  • Updated the site and put FREEBIRDS on it. Also asked for donations locally. Again, anytime you want give whatever input on the site - wording/graphics, etc...?
  • Took the boob pics off of the website/blog because I heard it was lame.. ;( I understand...
  • Will spend the rest of the day updating and adding Cities to the site. I need to get this finished so that we can start to get links and start to advertise a product for people to utilize by City.

Thank you for your support, Matt :)
